come the musical revolution...

All time top 5 bands or musicians (pop) that, come the music revolution, need to be laid to waste:

5. Elvis- besides his rumored (and by rumored i mean probably true. i just haven't actually done the research) exploitation of black music/musicians, elvis made some truly crappy music. at the top of this, imho, Teddy Bear. Gag.

4. Korn- i used to try and justify the existence of Korn by pretending that their drummer is actually pretty good. then the other day somebody told me "you can't be the best at making a shit-sandwich." that quote, for some reason, seems appropriate here.

3. Sting- orginally i wanted to put the police here, mostly because i despise the police. greg swears to me that the police made some decent songs, so i will withhold them from the list (at least for now). also, i will paraphrase a quote from greg: "somewhere along the line sting went from rock musician to scented candle." i agree greg.

2. Beastie Boys- there is so much good hip hop and rap out there, go find it. meanwhile, throw your copy of Hello Nasty in the garbage.

1. U2- hands down one of the most overrated bands of all time. on top of that, their fans are completely obnoxious. also, see bono and the edge. i hope to god that in 25 years we all realize our mistake and these douchebags get zero spin on whatever is the reputable "oldies" station. the last thing i want is for future generations to think that U2 is representative of the music we grew up with that is actually worth listening to. i can see it now:

"hey dad, did you ever listen to U2?"
"jesus christ no. here's a copy of nevermind, go listen to it now."

i would like to know your Top 5 for this list too. hit the comments. i also recommend you visit this blog as it is completely awesome. peace out.

You are absolutely right about U2 and Bono. Look up "narcissist" in the dictionary and you will see a picture of Bono. I don't like Sting, but "Don't Stand So Close to Me" was a decent pop song by The Police.

I think you are wrong about Elvis. He was exploited by his record company and, later, by Hollywood. I think he hated "Teddy Bear" and the other crappy songs they made him sing. His early recordings of songs like "Heartbreak Hotel", "That's All Right" and "Jailhouse Rock" changed American pop music forever.

Don't know enough about the others to comment.

I agree with Frank.

Ryry, I think the list is ok, but there are plenty of people who rank higher than Korn and Elvis. For instance, Nickleback, who held numerous #1 hit songs. Evidence A: http://www.thewebshite.net/nickelback.htm

And as for Elvis exploiting black people, look more to the Motown label, who had not honored its numerous writers and musicians regularly regardless of race. They may have been all mostly black musicians, but they were exploting the hell out of their studio musicians.

My 2 cents.
bah.
